For the first time in the Middle East and North Africa, Nokia will hold two live pop music performances held in separate locations using the power of 3G mobile technology. This innovative event celebrates the introduction of the Nokia 6680, 1.3 megapixel, imaging smartphone into the region, the latest addition to Nokia’s powerful 3G phone portfolio. All residents and visitors to the UAE are invited to attend the concerts taking place at Virgin Megastore in Deira City Centre, where Lebanese pop sensation Myriam sang and at the Virgin Megastore at the Mercato mall, where Arabic composer and singer Marwan Khoury performed. Entrance is free and performances begin at 5pm. Myriam fares

Using the power of Video Call and the Nokia 6680, promoters will beam live footage from the performances to audiences at the other location allowing shoppers to enjoy two concerts from a single venue.

“As the leader in 3G mobile phone technology, Nokia sees the launch of its latest 3G phone as the perfect opportunity to give a unique demonstration of the amazing capabilities of 3G mobility,” said Petr Hosek, Nokia Senior Business Manager for Multimedia, Middle East and Africa. “We see this demonstration not only as a way to celebrate two rising young Arab music stars but also to demonstrate our commitment to bringing the very latest in global mobile phone technologies to the savvy and tech-hungry consumers of the Middle East,” he added.

Myriam, a graduate of Studio El Fan and an Arabic Song Festival first prize winner, confirmed her place in the Arabic music scene with her hit “Tis’alni”. She is famous for her live performances, which combine a beautiful voice with professional dance moves and a special way of engaging the crowd.

Marwan Khoury is famous not only for his two albums, “Khayal Al Omr” and “Kil El Asaied”, but also for his work as a composer and poet. The winner of the Murex D’ore best composer award in 2003, Khoury has written music for such prominent singers as Cheb Mami, Majda Rumi, Abdul Majid Abdullah, Fadl Shaker, Nawal Zoghbi, among others.

The new Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone is optimized for visual sharing, boasting two integrated cameras, a flash and a bright screen of up to 262,144 colours. Designed for ease-of-use, the active slide covering the back camera of the Nokia 6680 provides fast and intuitive camera activation as well as effortless switching between cameras during a video call.
