Tabreed, the UAE’s award-winning district cooling pioneer, has won a contract with the Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club – Abu Dhabi (Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium) to provide cooling services for its existing buildings. Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club

This is the company’s first sports sector project and will require an estimated 1200 Ton of Refrigeration (TR) cooling capacity for the existing grand stand and gymnasium.

The company has also been contracted to cool the Mohamed bin Zayed stadium’s new development aimed at transforming it into a world-class sporting facility. The cooling load will be 2200 TR.

“The Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club will be one of the region’s most modern sporting facilities,” said the club’s Logistics Manager, Samir El Zarif. “While considering the cooling requirements of the stadium, we wanted a technology that would not interfere with its modern design.

“The use of district cooling ensured this and it will also help us cut down on operational costs as it uses 40% less energy as compared to conventional cooling methods. Tabreed, one of the world’s largest cooling companies, was a natural choice for us.”

The Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club development will be complete in October this year.

Commenting on the win, Tabreed’s CEO, Dany Safi said that district cooling is increasingly becoming popular as a means of cooling residential buildings, office blocks and commercial buildings in the Middle East.

“The GCC, which is going through a construction boom, is looking to tap into the best available and efficient technology for various requirements of the new master-planned developments.”

District cooling has been used around the world since it was invented in the late 1800’s. It works by piping chilled water from a centralised plant to a range of residential, commercial and government buildings.

Landlords are attracted to the maintenance-free, economic and environmentally friendly cooling benefits of the technology, while tenants enjoy reduced ambient noise and better temperature control in their homes, making it the perfect solution for all cooling requirements.
