Posted: 01-05-2008 , 09:52 GMT

MammutDubai-based Mammut Group today announced that work had started on a AED 500 million construction contract awarded by master planners Nakheel for one phase of Waterfront – the largest planned urban development in the world.

Located on the western shores of Dubai near Jebel Ali, Waterfront will transform 1.4 billion square feet of empty desert and sea into an international community for an estimated population of 1.4 million people that is twice the size of Hong Kong Island.

The contract entails the design, construction and associated works for more than 140 villas and more than 850 apartments in the Badrah district of Waterfront.  The contract will be carried out for the first phase over a period 12-18 months.

Commenting on the contract award, Mammut Chairman and CEO, Behzad Ferdows said, “We are honored by the award of this prestigious contract and are committed to ensuring the highest quality of engineering works expected by Nakheel.  For Mammut, this is an exciting project that will see significant through put of our new state of the art pre-cast factory based in TechnoPark which we have committed for this project.”

This latest contract win comes hard on the heels of Mammut’s successful tender to build the world’s largest pre-stressed concrete drinking water reservoirs at a cost of AED 620 million for DEWA.

The Mammut Group is one of the Middle East's largest industrial contracting and manufacturing companies with core strengths in the manufacture of pre-engineered steel and pre-cast concrete. The company employs 4,000 people and has ten offices globally and six manufacturing plants.
