Rakeen launches Dana Island in Ras Al Khaimah
Posted: 09-06-2008 , 04:59 GMT

rakeenRakeen, the real estate development arm of the Ras Al Khaimah government, announced yesterday (Saturday, June 07, 2008) the launch of its Dana Island project in Ras Al Khaimah. The announcement was made during a launch event held at the Jumeriah Beach Hotel, Dubai.

Dana Island, being developed to accommodate several world-class hotels, and commercial and residential complexes, extends 7 kilometers into the sea, and is expected to create an estimated 53 kilometers of new shoreline in Ras Al Khaimah.

Wahid Attalla, Member of the Board, Rakeen, said, “The Dana Island project is poised to become one of the UAE’s most sought-after multi-purpose developments, and the launch presents an opportunity for regional and international investors to capitalise on the project’s unique design, concept and location. More importantly Rakeen has adopted the most sophisticated construction technologies to ensure that the Dana Island project will preserve the marine environment.”

“As Ras Al Khaimah steadily gains prominence as one of the region’s preferred holiday and business destinations, we believe that Dana Island will add significant value to the emirate’s global appeal,” added Attalla.

Dana Island’s design consists of a main stem in three parts and ten leaf-shaped islands. The project will be phased in two parts: intermediate and final phase, and upon completion, Dana Island will create an estimated 6.8 million square meters of land. The sand required for the construction will be sourced offshore, while rock materials will be sourced from various quarries in Ras Al Khaimah.

Rakeen is also involved in a host of other upscale projects in Ras Al Khaimah, such as the RAK Financial City, Gateway City, Al Marjan Island, RAK Convention Centre, Azure Hotel, Jabel Al Jais and Banyan Tree Resort. The company is also developing extensive mixed-use projects internationally such as Isfahan, Iran along with Tbilisi Uptown and Tbilisi Heights in Georgia.
